To promote early weight bearing and rapid rehabilitation, 55 patients with intertrochanteric hip fractures were treated with bipolar prosthetic replacement. If performed shortly after injury, this procedure allows the restoration of correct limb length and almost nullifies the classic complications of osteosynthesis as well as mortality during or after surgery.
