To propose a possible treatment for symptomatic serous pigment epithelium detachment (SPED) in the setting of dry age-related macular degeneration.
Methods
A 60-year-old woman presented with a SPED, subfoveal in location, enlarging in size and with gradually worsening vision over 1 year of follow-up, without any evidence of choroidal neovascular membrane or neurosensory detachment until it was treated with subthreshold micropulse laser.
Results
The last follow-up showed complete resolution of the SPED with restoration of visual function.
Conclusions
Subthreshold micropulse laser could serve as a useful therapeutic modality for the treatment of symptomatic SPED. (Eur J Ophthalmol 2009; 19: 887–9)
