Invitation to the 5th World Feline Veterinary Conference
Join the AAFP at the 5th World Feline Veterinary Conference, which will be held in San Francisco, CA, USA, from 31 October to 3 November, 2019. The AAFP is thrilled to present a first-of-its-kind conference, which has a theme of Complex Disease Management and will explore feline comorbidities, to more than 1500 expected attendees.
This will be a truly unique meeting that encourages attendees to think differently about treating comorbidities. This is a critical area in feline medicine because the interaction and processes between two or more distinct diseases can be challenging, and yet practices experience this occurrence almost daily. Veterinary professionals will acquire knowledge about two or more different diseases or conditions that exist together and what to do if treatments appear to conflict.
In addition, the conference offers ancillary sessions on a variety of feline topics during the Pre-conference day, a Feline-Friendly Handling Workshop, luncheon seminars, and, back by popular demand, a 2 day Technician/Nurse Track and a 1 day Practice Management Track.
Technology upgrades
The AAFP recently completed a successful launch of a new software system, as well as eLearning and email platforms. All three were designed to improve the member experience and the AAFP’s ability to enhance benefits.
Some of the areas where members can see these upgrades are in the eLearning Center, email communications, sections of the Member Center, and in their experience during membership or event registration. Members received an email on February 22 with instructions on how to change their password and, if not already completed, members will need to change their password to access these new benefits. New webinars are also in development and will be featured in the eLearning Center. A newly released webinar entitled Managing Feline Endocrine Diseases, sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim, focuses on working through challenging endocrine cases involving patients with comorbidities; other webinar topics to launch this year will include blood pressure management, behavior and pain management. ISFM
Cat Friendly Clinic reaches new countries
ISFM’s Cat Friendly Clinic (CFC) programme earlier this year achieved two new firsts, with Hungary and Romania joining the list of countries that have a CFC.
Caladrius is the first CFC in Hungary, and achieved Silver status, and Panda Vet Care is the first CFC in Romania, and achieved Bronze status.
Alex and Anda Strimbeanu from Panda Vet Care, shown here displaying their new CFC certificates, comment ‘We have always loved cats and wanted to make things better for them. From the moment we started to study more about cats and their behaviour and all the health problems that can relate to this, we started to make changes in order to improve the experience and quality of the medical services we offer to our feline patients. Once we did that, we immediately saw the difference. Being accredited as a CFC is a recognition of our hard work and proof that everything we do is for the benefit of our feline patients’

Two new podcasts are now available on the JFMS website, one discussing the 2015 ISFM diabetes guidelines, and the other discussing a two-part article series published in July 2018 on shelter housing for cats.

Collections
Development of JFMS’s online, open access sister title JFMS Open Reports continues, and the ever-growing archive of high quality case reports, short case series and short communications is being organised into discipline-based ‘Collections’. Two new Collections have recently been launched – Orthopaedics, and Gastroenterology and Hepatology. These join the existing Cardiorespiratory, Infectious Disease, Endocrinology, Soft Tissue Surgery and Oncology Collections.
