New podcast – anesthesia guidelines
In a new podcast interview, Sheilah Robertson and Susan Gogolski discuss a valuable resource for feline practitioners – the ‘AAFP Feline Anesthesia Guidelines’, which were published last year in JFMS.
Encouraging all veterinarians who treat cats to consider that ‘one size does not fit all’ when it comes to anesthetic protocols, Sheilah and Susan, the panel co-chairs for the guidelines, recommend using them as part of a package for cats along with other guidelines – for example, the AAFP and ISFM Feline-Friendly Handling Guidelines – in order to optimise the experience for cats.
A key take-away message is that cats can indeed be anesthetised safely, but it is vital that the practice team is familiar with the protocol in use, and proactively plans ahead for any adverse event.
Call for abstracts
Research abstracts of relevance to feline clinical practice are invited for the 2019 ISFM Congress in Cavtat, Croatia.
Abstracts should present novel information (or highly unusual case material) that has not been previously published, although abstracts that have been presented at a previous conference will be considered. All submitted abstracts will be reviewed, and those accepted will go forward to be presented in poster format. The presenter of an accepted abstract will receive a 50% discount on member rate registration for the congress. Accepted abstracts will be published in JFMS.
