Abstract

A response from the AAFP will follow in the January 2017 issue. – Editors
Dear Editors, – I write with regard to the first article in the two-part review on practical urinalysis in the cat published earlier in this volume of JFMS. 1 In the Chemical Properties section, under Protein, the authors state that: ‘Standard practice chemistry analysers cannot be used to measure urine protein; different dedicated reagents are required for such measurements on specialised machines within the referral laboratory.’
I would like to challenge this claim. IDEXX Laboratories offers urine protein:creatinine (UPC) measurements on two of its in-house biochemistry analysers.
