Abstract

CFC
The cat friendly experience
Since its launch last year, the ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic (CFC) programme, run in Europe in association with Purina, has attracted attention from a large number practices. Completed applications are now being received regularly and the standard has been very high. By mid-March, 61 practices were already displaying their cat friendly credentials in advance of a planned public PR campaign to encourage cat owners to find a cat friendly clinic. Most of these successful applicants have been asked to implement some changes within their practice and are immediately reaping the benefits, as the two examples, given below, explain.

New look and feel
As the AAFP’s Cat Friendly Practice (CFP) program continues to grow and evolve in North America, so does the CFP brand. Therefore, we are proud to reveal our new logo! While we have paid considerable homage to the previous logo by retaining the imagery, it has been updated for a more progressive look, along with a fresh color palette. The CFP program materials are currently being updated with the new look and feel.

Research flags up missed opportunities
A recent study conducted by Bayer HealthCare, in collaboration with the AAFP, revealed that 78% of veterinarians believe that better care for cats represents one of the most significant missed opportunities for the profession.
The purpose of the Bayer Veterinary Care Usage Study is to improve veterinary care of pets by determining why visits are declining and helping veterinarians reverse the trend, according to Ian Spinks, President and General Manager of Bayer HealthCare LLC Animal Health Division, North America. Earlier phases of the study found that cats were less likely to receive regular veterinary care.
‘ “The Bayer Veterinary Care Usage Study III: Feline Findings” aims to deliver actionable insights that improve feline healthcare and strengthen veterinary practices,’ said Spinks. ‘Together with the AAFP, Bayer HealthCare will work throughout 2013 to uncover the obstacles to routine veterinary care for cats and find practical solutions to help remove them.’
The research findings will be presented at the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) conference on July 21 in Chicago.
