Abstract
Although it is presumed that most schools formally and systematically evaluate faculty for purposes of salary, tenure and promotion, the literature reveals little current evidence regarding the extent or nature of the faculty evaluation process. A survey of AEJMC members reveals that despite unique and diverse course formats, journalism and mass communication programs fit the national pattern. Formal classroom evaluation is widely practiced; the preferred method is student evaluation; rating instruments are the methodologies of choice.
