Abstract
The principles of spherical thermal transmission apparatus and two kinds of working modes-constant temperature boundary and constant heat flux boundary- are described. Numerical solutions are made by means of finite difference analysis for each mode. The results show that the settling time for the constant tem perature mode is about 2.5-6.5 times shorter than the constant heat flux mode. The error analysis for this apparatus is also discussed; the accuracy is better than ±3%. Experiments show that the apparatus is suitable to determine the apparent thermal conductivity for granular and powder materials.
