Abstract
A comprehensive bibliography concerning the complex subject of aging of cellular plastic insulations and its effect on performance of building envelope components is being maintained. The subject involves three interrelated issues, namely: materials and products behavior, installed systems performance, and testing and evaluation
A critical assessment of the issues shows that, while the basic aging process of cel lular plastics and some of the factors affecting it are well understood and verified, the performance of the products and systems in the field is not. As a result confusion and uncertainty exist.
Based on this assessment, a number of recommendations are made regarding quantification of certain parameters without which no fluorocarbon blown cellular plastic material product or system can attain claimed thermal performance Further recommendations are made concerning future laboratory and field studies necessary for verification of claims that design performance can be attained.
