Cellular plastics insulation was used in sandwich panel construction in Australia several decades ago. This paper reviews the field performance of such systems and discusses the lack of growth into urban housing construction. The slow development of appropriate standards is considered to be a contributory cause and the current situation is discussed in detail particularly in relation to performance in fire of the materials used and the composite panels.
