Abstract
The thermal resistance of a standard stud wall foamed with urea formaldehyde foam insulation has been measured in an in-situ test under field conditions. Using a steady state model for thermal resistance and assuming that average temperatures adequately describe the changing out side temperature during the heating season, the thermal resistance of the wall was found to be 11.9 hr ft2 F/ B after the foam shrinkage had stabilized at 6 percent. This result is in reasonable agreement with similar results found under con trolled laboratory conditions [4]. If foam shrinkage can be predicted, the thermal resistance of a wall with this insulation and minimal air infiltration can be adequately predicted.
