Abstract
The rate of formaldehyde release from urea-formal dehyde and phenol-formaldehyde foams can be investigated, in addition to other techniques, by means of the Reichhold Box Method. It has been recently described and experimentally as sessed. In this paper, the method is analyzed and assessed kineti cally. Under certain kinetic circumstances, such as the rate of formaldehyde release being much larger than the rate of air sam pling, the method can provide the concentration of formaldehyde on the foam surface. The typical UF foams are shown to belong to this kinetic category.
