Abstract
Design of the fuel tank insulation system for LH2-fueled aircraft presents a major problem because of stringent safety and long life, multiple cyclic environmental exposure re quirements. Because of these considerations, a study program was undertaken to evaluate the fifteen types of insulation which could be considered as candidates for the fuel tanks of a subsonic LH2-fueled transport aircraft. The time frame for airline service is 1990 to 1995. The results of this program are presented with recommendations for two types of fuel tank insulation. The gen- . eral fuel systems configurations are also discussed.
