Abstract
This study investigated the extent of computer use in independent restaurants and com puter training received by restaurant owners/managers and employees. A survey of 144 Iowa independent restaurant owners/managers revealed that close to one third of the re spondents were using computers in their restaurants. Over half of the respondents who used computers at work reported that insufficient training was a main concern with com puters. Close to half of the respondents who used computers at work expressed interest to attend a computer training session. Variables such as age, education level, job position, and gender significantly influenced respondents'computer usage. Differences in computer use and computer support compared with operational characteristics also were examined.
