Abstract
While it does not always claim center stage, the subject of ethics has been one
of the oldest issues of discourse. Its prominence as a topic of discussion arises
usually when there is confusion or lack of clarity about the appropriate behavior of
individuals in a given setting. As a new discipline or profession develops, the need
arises fora set of prescriptions that define conduct within the context of the discipline.
Being a relatively new discipline, hospitality education suffers from a lack of clarity
concerning appropriate behavior for those engaged in education, service, and
research at colleges and universities. It is the purpose of this paper to provide a
conceptual framework upon which a hospitality educators' code of ethics can be
built.
