The Club Managers Association of America (CMAA), while already offering a
variety of educational opportunities for its members, felt a need for a comprehensive
education program that would in turn meet the needs of private-club managers at all
levels of their career development. CMAA asked the authors for help in developing
a five-stage, lifelong professional education program for that purpose. The program
is competency-based and involves a unique combination of university faculty,
industry consultants, and senior club managers as faculty. Two of the five stages
have been fully developed and offered to club managers and have, to date, met with
considerable success.
