Abstract
In a relatively recent development, psychology is being driven by the competitive nature of sports. Attempting to enhance the performance of athletes, psychologists are applying principles of attentional control, looking at the ways athletes concentrate, whether broad or narrow, internal or external in focus. Relationships between performance and attentional style have been established. This paper discusses these principles and their application to the hospitality industry where high performance is also a key ingredient to success.
