Abstract
User-centered design (UCD) has become a key strategy in software development, UCD approach is a modern design methodology that prioritizes the active involvement of users throughout every stage of the design process to create products that are both effective and efficient. This paper explores a case study that seeks to apply the principles of UCD to course design, aiming to enhance teaching effectiveness, improve student learning outcomes, and boost overall academic success at the university level. It delves into the stages of the design process, focusing on the analysis of students’ needs, expectations, and constraints within the teaching environment, all framed through the lens of the UCD approach. The goal of this research was to apply the UCD process in the creation of an Android-based application for scheduling medical appointments, emphasizing a deep understanding of user needs for both functionality and interface design. This paper presents a new design for a medical appointment booking app that minimizes costs and reduces the interaction time between patients and administrative staff. The findings indicate UCD so vital and it is necessary to apply it within design students’ projects to create inclusive learning opportunities and educational experiences. UCD approach enhances system effectiveness and user involvement by ensuring that technological investments align with users.
