Abstract

Dear All,
I am pleased to report that Int J Toxicol is doing very well as we pass the “mid-year” point of 2020. Submissions are up over previous years, and I’m excited about the quality and value of articles that we have published to date. Support from American College of Toxicology (ACT) members has been extremely strong, including timely review of articles, as well as lots of great manuscript submissions. I am most grateful for all of this support. I am delighted to report that I have received two overview articles based on symposia presented at the 2019 ACT annual meeting, and I am expecting a few more. Please let this serve as a “nudge” for presenters at the 2020 ACT annual meeting to consider writing up a summary of your session for publication in Int J Toxicol. In fact, now, as you are finalizing your presentations, is likely the best time to do this, as our annual meeting is close enough to the holidays that other tasks might take priority after our annual meeting.
I am also excited to announce the winner of ACT’s 2019 Best Paper Award. Selection criteria for this award include being published in the previous calendar year in Int J Toxicol, showing immediate positive impact (citations, downloads, and/or Altmetric score); and-having potential for broad, long-lasting impact on the field and/or practice of toxicology. The 2019 paper selected for this honor is “Investigating the Value of Urine Volume, Creatinine, and Cystatin C for Urinary Biomarkers Normalization for Drug Development Studies.” Authors of the paper are Adedeji AO, Pourmohamad T, Chen Y, Burkey J, Betts CJ, Bickerton SJ, Sonee M, and McDuffie JE., and the paper was published in Int J Toxicol, Volume 38(1): 12-22, 2019. Coincidentally, prior to knowing that this paper would receive the Best Paper honor, I requested a photomicrograph (included) from Dr. Adedeji (pictured) to use on the cover of Int J Toxicol. Please join me in congratulating our winning authors! As you read our 2020 articles, please make a note of a deserving manuscript to nominate for our next Best Paper award. My sincere thanks to the Editorial Board members who participated in the selection process: Drs. Bill Brock, Erica Carroll, Charleata Carter, Mary Ellen Cosenza, and Heidi Hsieh.
Again, my thanks to all of you for all of your input and contributions.
