Abstract

Dr. Hanan Ghantous, the first winner of the American College of Toxicology Mildred Christian Women's Leadership in Toxicology Award.
Greetings!
Happy 2019!
The 2018 American College of Toxicology (ACT) Annual Meeting brought us some amazing scientific sessions and a very lively and information-packed poster session. As we have done in the past, the abstracts of posters presented at the 2018 ACT Annual Meeting are published in this issue of International Journal of Toxicology. The Awards Luncheon featured many well-deserved recognitions, including Editorial Board member Hanan Ghantous’ recognition as the first winner of the ACT Mildred Christian Women’s Leadership in Toxicology Award. The Awards Luncheon also featured the official announcement of the award for the Best Paper published in International Journal of Toxicology in 2017. That honor went to Leslie Recio, Marvin Friedman, Dennis Marroni, Timothy Maynor, and Nikolai Chepelev for their article “Impact of Acrylamide on Calcium Signaling and Cytoskeletal Filaments in Testes from F344 Rat,” published in volume 36, issue 2, 2017. This prompts me to remind you that nominations are currently open for the best paper published in 2018, and we welcome nominations from anyone who would like to submit one! The deadline is March 31, 2019, and the link to the nomination form can be found on the ACT web site: https://www.actox.org/aboutACT/awards.asp.
In other Journal news, I’m pleased to announce some new additions to the Editorial Board: Dr Erica E. Carroll (Covance [Greenfield, Indiana]), Dr Matt Z. Dieter (Eli Lilly and Company), and Dr Heidi Hsieh (Covance [Madison, Wisconsin]). I look forward to keeping them, as well as the ongoing members of the Editorial Board, very busy in the upcoming year!
In addition to our hardworking and dedicated Editorial Board members, I want to extend my sincere thanks to the ad hoc reviewers who reviewed manuscripts submitted to the Journal in 2018. Many of our ad hoc reviewers are members of ACT, but others are colleagues who chose to lend their expertise to ensure that the material that we publish in International Journal of Toxicology is of high quality and appropriate scientific rigor. Please see the list of our 2018 ad hoc reviewers near the end of this issue and join me in thanking them for their service to the Journal!
We concluded 2018 with approximately 370 submissions from 50 different countries. Of the countries from which we received more than 10 submissions, India topped the list with 52, followed by Iran (42 submissions), Egypt (36 submissions), China (34 submissions), and the United States with 27 submissions (in addition to the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Supplement articles).
Please consider a manuscript submission to the Journal and encourage your colleagues to do the same. I am cautiously optimistic that, thanks to some of the excellent manuscripts that we have published over the past few years, we may see another bump up in our impact factor, and who wouldn’t want to be part of that success story?
Thank you for your contributions and support, and let’s make 2019 a great year.
All the best!
