Abstract

Happy 2018! The year 2017 was certainly a busy one for our journal! We ended the year with 415 total submissions from 47 countries. The distribution of submissions is shown in the chart below for countries with eight or more submissions. United States-based authors led the way with accepted original manuscripts that were submitted in 2017. The three Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) supplemental issues published in 2017 included eight new safety assessments, 18 rereview summaries, a 40th anniversary overview, and a particularly interesting article on the CIR’s process and history (vol 36, suppl 2, page 5S).
Looking ahead, our current issue of International Journal of Toxicology is full of interesting materials. We have a great symposium overview article “Toxicology Evaluation of Drugs Administered via Uncommon Routes: Intranasal, Intraocular, Intrathecal/Intraspinal and Intra-Articular” by Armaghan Emami and colleagues, followed by four original articles, and the abstracts of the posters presented at the 2017 American College of Toxicology (ACT) Annual Meeting in Palm Springs, California. Finally, I want to thank the many ad hoc reviewers who provided peer reviews for the Journal in 2017. Many of our ad hoc reviewers are members of ACT, many are not, but their names are all listed at the end of Issue 1, and their contributions are most sincerely appreciated. The contributions of our dedicated Editorial Board are also acknowledged with my sincere thanks. You serve every day to ensure rigor in the review of articles that are published in our journal. Thank you!
I also need to thank someone who has made many important contributions to International Journal of Toxicology since I took over as editor in December 2008, and also under previous Editor Harihari Mehendale. Dr Bill Brock, associate editor since “day 1” of my term, as well as a trusted resource and respected colleague, has decided to hang up the associate editor’s hat. Fortunately, Bill has agreed to remain a member of the International Journal of Toxicology Editorial Board, so he’ll still be hearing from me, but I assure you, my friend, it will not be as frequently or with as great urgently as it has been for the past nine years! You have my heartfelt thanks for you support, wisdom, submissions to the journal as an author, and tireless work as associate editor.
Enjoy the first issue of 2018, and look for a mini-review on microRNAs, as well as other great content, in our next issue.
