Abstract

Greetings!
Our current issue of International Journal of Toxicology contains something for everyone, including a commentary by Madhav Paranjpe concerning design of studies using Tg.rasH2 mice; a perspective by William Siska and colleagues on the topic of clinical pathology data for veterinary drug development; two symposium overview articles that contain summaries of the outstanding content of symposia presented at prior American College of Toxicology (ACT) Annual Meetings; two regular scientific research articles; and a book review. Enjoy!
Our tribute to the late Dr John Doull continues in this issue. Former ACT President, Dr David Serota, sent additional comments about Dr Doull’s influence on him as a young toxicologist: “I first met Dr Doull around 1969 during my first year as a graduate student under Dr John Autian at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Memphis. Dr Autian had recently begun publishing a newsletter, Forum for the Advancement of Toxicology (FAT), and Dr Doull was a member of the editorial review board. During one occasion, Dr Autian invited the 12 members of the review board to come to Memphis to review his graduate program and as graduate students we were surrounded by the royalty of toxicology for several days. In addition to Dr Doull, I also remember Bill Deichman, Ken Dubois, Charlie Winek, and several other giants of the industry at that time. It was a tremendous opportunity for a young graduate student to not only listen and learn, but to also ask questions, and I remember how gracious and patient Dr Doull was throughout all of our interactions that week. Now with his passing, he was probably the last of the toxicology “greats” who actually created the science and profession of toxicology. He WILL be missed!” (David G. Serota, PhD, DABT)
The ACT Annual Meeting will be here before we know it. Please check out the outstanding program that awaits us in Palm Springs, California: http://www.actox.org/am/am2017/.
