Abstract
U.S. Latino children experience the highest rates of obesity compared with other racial groups. This study aimed to develop a culturally tailored curriculum for the Eat, Play, Go! (EPG) family-based intervention to address relevant obesogenic risk factors impacting Latino families. The curriculum was developed using the Social Cognitive Theory, the National Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services Standards, and Community Health Workers’ feedback to ensure cultural fit, and prior evidence-based interventions. Latino stakeholders’ also provided feedback through focus groups that helped refine the curriculum. The final curriculum has nutrition and physical activity topics and skill-building activities delivered over four bilingual, 2-hour sessions. Caregiver–youth dyads (adults ≥18 years, youth 10–13 years) completed 4-item Likert-type scale surveys (N = 512) to evaluate satisfaction scores for sessions. Participants were highly satisfied with the culturally tailored curriculum, thus showing promise for addressing healthy lifestyle behaviors relevant to Latino families.
