“Changing Patterns of Homicide and Social Policy” is a grant funded by the National Institute of Justice to examine homicide in three urban areas. The goals of the project are (a) to document the nature of changes in homicide in three sites from 1980 to 1994; (b) to determine neighborhood correlates of changes in homicide victimization and offending patterns; and (c) to provide a preliminary assessment of the influence of police, welfare, educational, and recreational policies on the number and type of homicides evident in selected cities. These goals are addressed through different methodological approaches.
