Abstract
Physician treatment decisions are often being challenged by third party payors in an effort to cut costs. It is imperative that physicians understand their role in the utilization review process in order to avoid liability related to reimbursement decisions. This article identifies steps to take in order to limit liability exposure of both the physician and the health care institution.
