Abstract
A nurse and social worker paired together by their home health agency to case manage technol ogy-dependent children suspected one of their clients was the victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a form of child abuse where parents fabricate or induce illness in their children. They reported their suspicions to their immediate supervisors and attempted to locate case manage ment protocols or community professionals with enough experience with Munchausen syn drome by proxy to guide them as they worked to establish the abuse of the child. What they found was a community asleep in its knowledge of the syndrome and how it abuses its victims. Perhaps the problems they encountered and the protocols they established may alert and assist others. Key words: case management; Munchausen syndrome by proxy
