The changing health care environment is causing the creation of strategic alliances and the formation of integrated health care delivery systems. Home health is an opportunity to increase profits within these systems. Of equal importance, home health is an alternative to hospitaliza tion in the provision of patient care from birth to death. The formation of hospital-based home health agencies is an opportunity to close the loop on patients leaving the system, to reduce fragmentation within the delivery process, and to provide a service that meets the needs of the customer, physician, payer, and hospital.
