Abstract
This article was written to give the health care professional a general overview of an adult day care center. The reader should find answers to questions concerning referrals, typical client diagnoses, and concerns of the caregivers. Another section describes a typical day at our center and some characteristic examples of activities provided. The section on staff requirements and selection deals with hiring appropriate personnel. Various duties required of the director/manager of a cen ter are discussed, as well as the working relationship with the client case manager. A section deals with client management at the center and termination. The advantages of a hospital-based adult center are discussed, as is the Pennsylvania Adult Day Care Association.
