The author presents information on a very successful homemaking agency program that serves patients who have mental illness, serious medical problems, elusive family members, and other problems that make providing services almost impossible. This model program, which was implemented in 1984, has proven successful in its approach. The article includes case examples and discusses recruitment and retention, wages, and communication requirements.
