Patients have the right to choose the equipment company. To do so, they must be educated by the professional staff they are involved with in both the hospital and the home. The authors present standards for evaluating an effective equipment company and review the physiology of the most common pulmonary diseases and types of respiratory equipment with a focus on the team approach. All home care providers dealing with pulmonary patients will benefit from this article.
