Abstract
Background:
The growing elderly population and the prevalence of chronic diseases have led to an increasing demand for home health services. Therefore, equipping health students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to provide effective home care services in their professional lives has become a critical element in health education.
Aim:
The aim of this study is to determine the attitudes toward home care services among students from three different health disciplines and to examine the relationships between the variables. Understanding these attitudes is important because students’ perceptions of home care may influence their future professional behaviors, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the quality of care provided to individuals in community and home settings.
Methods:
The study was conducted as a cross-sectional research to determine the attitudes toward home care services among students from three different health disciplines and was completed with 392 students. Two forms were used to collect data: the descriptive characteristics form and the home care services attitude scale. Descriptive statistics, reliability tests, and correlation analysis were used to analyze the data.
Results:
The mean home care services attitude score of the students was found to be 119.61 (±18.392). A statistically significant difference (P < .05) was observed in the scale scores (median) between the students’ age group, gender, disciplines, whether they took home care/health-related courses during their associate/bachelor’s degree education, and whether they wanted to work in home health services.
Conclusion:
It was determined that the attitudes of students from three different health disciplines toward home care services were generally positive. Differences in demographic and education-related variables highlight the importance of including structured home care education in the health curriculum to further strengthen these attitudes.
