Abstract
Patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) often face challenges adapting to reduced independence after surgery, with discrepancies between discharge expectations and actual experiences. This prospective survey examined changes in readiness for discharge – knowledge, perceived coping ability, expected support, and personal status – between discharge and 1 week later, and identified predictors of post-discharge self-care knowledge. A convenience sample of 100 patients undergoing elective TKA completed the Readiness for hospital discharge scale (RHDS) 4 ± 1 hours before discharge and again on day 7 ± 2 after discharge.
