Abstract
The financial and human cost of diabetes is rising such that one in every five health care dollars is spent to treat this disease. This major public health concern needs to be addressed in the most efficacious manner to curtail the human carnage from the resulting consequences of this disease. It seems prudent that health care focus on preventing type 2 diabetes through screening and treatment of prediabetes. The purpose of this column is to assess the movement toward the prevention of diabetes.
