Abstract
The need for cultural awareness and sensitivity increases when a nurse is immersed in a cross-cultural clinical experience. The nursing process is a foundational process in nursing that is not bound by culture. Through working in Lesotho, Africa, for 6 weeks in a rural government-based health center, a nurse mentor used the nursing process both in developing the mentoring role and in teaching about HIV care provision. The assigned role for the nurse was to serve as a clinical mentor for providers and to develop a plan that increased access and improved delivery of HIV care to the people in the community.
