Abstract
During the course of the past few years, faculty members at the University of South Dakota, Department of Nursing, have developed and implemented a variety of creative and valuable community clinical experiences for nursing students. This article addresses different community clinical sites utilized for each of the four semesters in the program. By using a diverse approach to the clinical experience for students, it is the anticipation that graduate nurses will be better prepared to work within the community setting and require shortened preceptoring. Having available more graduate nurses with a broader understanding of the role of the community health nurse is one important aspect for addressing the need for nurses within the home health and other community care settings.
