Abstract
Home health care socialwork is a vitalcompo nent of interdisciplinary home care services delivered in the United States today. Home health socialworkers provide expert assessment, inter vention, and consultation services to individual patients and to home health agencies at many different levels. The results of the 2001 National Survey of the American Network of Home Health Care SocialWorkers reinforce the need for professionalsocialworkers to deliver high-quality patient care. Under the Prospective Payment System, the home health social work role has expanded to include increased intake and predischarge activities, increased office consultation activities, and participation in ethical forums. The findings of the survey support the continued use of highly trained home health socialworkers.
