Abstract

Smith M, Zhang B, Willick S, Abushanab H, Awad E, Jones J. Association of temperature and cloud conditions with skiing and snowboarding injuries. Wilderness Environ Med. 2025. [Epub ahead of print]. doi:10.1177/10806032251382446
In the above article published Online First on October 17, 2025, a discrepancy in the reported temperature values was identified by a reader. Specifically, temperature data that were originally recorded in degrees Fahrenheit had been mistakenly labeled and presented as degrees Celsius, resulting in several values appearing implausibly high for a winter mountain environment. For example, a reported winter temperature of 27.3°C should have been 27.3°F (–2.6°C).
The error occurred during the manuscript preparation process, when the exported temperature variable, stored in Fahrenheit in the original dataset, was inadvertently misidentified as Celsius during table generation and manuscript drafting.
Once this issue was brought to the journal’s attention, the authors conducted a full review of the dataset, corrected all temperature values to the appropriate unit (Celsius), rechecked all analyses, and verified that these corrections did not change the study’s results or conclusions.
While this error does not affect the study’s results or conclusions, it may have led to misinterpretation of temperature values.
The article has been corrected to present all temperatures in degrees Celsius, in accordance with journal style.
