Entrepreneurial Organizations: The Driving Force for Improving Quality in the Healthcare Industry

Abstract

Using DiMaggio and Powell's concept of institutional isomorphism, the authors explain why healthcare lags behind other industries in innovating new production functions that address quality. Healthcare firms can “learn” to be entrepreneurial organizations within Stevenson's ‘entrepreneurial versus administrative behavior’ framework and Covin and Slevin's model of an entrepreneurial organization's required culture and behavioral support structure.
