A descriptive framework for the content analysis of sexual fantasies was developed by examination of the verbatim reports of fantasies from male and female incarcerated criminals. Twenty-two themes, subsumed under five major categories of sexual fantasies, were identified. Application of the scale to fantasies elicited from 73 offenders revealed that quantity of sexual fantasies produced was not affected by gender, but male criminals produced qualitatively different fantasies from female criminals.
