Two studies were conducted independently to look at families' reactions to their relative's mental illness. One study was conducted in the United States, the other in Canada. In a secondary analysis from the aggregate findings it was concluded that, regardless of society, families are faced with common caregiving issues, especially educational needs. On the basis of thefindings, family education should be included in every treatment plan.
