Abstract
Outpatient group therapy is an effective treatment modality for survivors of trauma with varying presentations of dissociative phenomena. Outpatient symptoms of dissociation can be measured through use of the Dissociative Experiences Scale. Advanced practice psychiatric nurses leading groups for dissociated clients can use the Dissociative Experiences Scale to assess symptoms, combine group participants by severity of dissociative symptoms, and plan interventions appropriate to the needs of the groups. This article reviews a clinical experience of three long-standing survivor groups. Interventions and implications for nurse psychotherapists are discussed.
