Abstract
The internet has allowed people to communicate easily and to retrieve a variety of information, including med ical information, very rapidly. Some functions of the internet include: sending and receiving electronic mail (e-mail); joining and participating in various discussion groups or newsgroups; exchanging (uploading or down loading) files via using various transfer protocols; logging into remote or host computers via telnet applications; connecting to thousands of computers worldwide using the gopher system; exploring the heart of the internet, the World Wide Web (WWW), via a commercially available browser; conversing electronically in real time with other people who are logged in to the same site and occupy the same "chat room" for "talking"; and, using the internet phone to talk to other people vocally, just as if you were using a regular phone.
