Abstract
Recently, the author has been reexamining his experiences in youth work (work with youth and youth workers from different cultures, races, classes, etc.). His goal is to deepen his understanding of how his presence influences his interactions and how he might have directly or inadvertently contributed to hegemony and oppression and to learn more about how issues such as race, class, and culture play out in youth work. To do this, the author has been drawing (writing) and interpreting sketches (vignettes) and a personal history. In this article, the author describes the process he uses and presents what he has learned and the questions that have been raised from his investigation.
