Abstract
In this poetic monologue based on the film Soul Food, the author uses Black feminist thought to explore the matrix of domination as it relates to Teri, the light-skin, married, high-powered attorney and eldest sibling in the matrifocal family. This framework enables the author to examine how Teri functions as the White capitalist patriarch within the Black family and the liaison between that family and the larger social institutions because of her occupied space within the matrix. The author also use poetics to offer commentary about representations of colorism, feminism, Black women, and meritocracy crystallized in her character.
