Abstract
Journalists and public relations persons hold similar views about what is and is not lying as practitioners supply information about two hypothetical events: the firing of a basketball coach and nuclear waste disposal problems facing a research laboratory. The 210 respondents in the nationwide survey do not view lying differently if the practitioner works for a public or private organization.
