Abstract
Newsmagazine coverage of U.S. Supreme Court cases in the 1981 through 1988 years covered by this study focused on about one case of every ten handed down (in comparison with reporting about one of every six decided cases in the years immediately preceding). Time, Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report coverage reflected all kinds of cases, but they gave heavy emphasis to decisions with First Amendment implications. In recent years, there also is a tendency for coverage to include more about judicial personalities along with decisions.
