Abstract
The recent trend to colorize early, often classic black and white films has created controversy as a result of the clash of artistic creativity, copyright laws, and technology. This study cites efforts by Congress and some state legislatures to protect creative rights, along with allowing for market forces. The study summarizes perspectives of film directors, producers, and others, and suggests policy guidelines.
