Abstract
A survey of the 18th century Irish press, concentrating on the years 1789–95, is offered in this article. Dublin had independent papers, subsidized Castle papers and an opposition press. Belfast boasted two of the best papers of the period, one of them the voice of the Society of United Irishmen.
