Abstract
This is the little known story of the federal common law proceedings brought against one of the leading Jeffersonian newspapers prior to enactment of the Sedition Law of 1798. It will appear in Dr. Smith's forthcoming book on The Alien and Sedition Laws and American Civil Liberties.
