Abstract
A useful teaching and research aid to journalism teachers for a quarter-century has been the annual volume of Proceedings of the American Society of Newspaper Editors, published under the title, Problems of Journalism. Each year since 1923, except for 1945, the Society has published its Proceedings and made them available to journalism libraries. However, the lack of a cumulative index has presented obvious difficulties in making full use of this resource, and the present subject-index, arranged to correspond as nearly as possible to the headings used in the quarterly Bibliography on Press and Communications, has been prepared as an aid to teachers and researchers. Materials have been selected on the basis of the long-term value of their content; routine business, some papers not directly relating to journalism problems, and those committee reports which were brief and often perfunctory, have been omitted.—W.
